"Building Positive Students" Parent and Child Night
What a successful night! Parents were able to attend informative sessions and students had fun interacting positively with their peers. For information on Social-Emotional Learning, see below.
Social-Emotional Learning, or SEL, is an area growing in interest and is just as important as academic learning. By teaching SEL concepts, we can build the foundation for our students to be confident, not only in their abilities, but in themselves.
Components of SEL:

Unity Day
During Red Ribbon Week MES also be took part in the national celebration of Unity Day on Wednesday, October 25. This is a day to celebrate community and togetherness and to work towards a world without bullying. Students wore as much orange as they could to show their support for an anti-bullying culture here at Mutual. This year, each classroom received a poster with a giant letter on it. They were instructed to decorate the poster/letter with messages of kindness and anti-bullying sentiments. When put together, the letters spelled out "Make Mutual Bully Free!" These posters are a colorful addition to our hall! See pictures below...

Career Day
Phew - what a busy time of year! In addition to all of these other great events, we are also gearing up for Career Day on Wednesday, November 15th during American Education Week!
We will be following the same schedule as years past. The last two hours of the day will be filled with Career Day rotations and activities. Grades K, 1, and 2 will rotate to presenters from 1:00 - 2:00 and grades 3, 4, and 5 will rotate to presenters from 2:00 - 3:00.
To prep for Career Day, there will be daily announcements during the whole month of November discussing the "Career of the Day" and "College of the Day". The elementary years are all about exposing our students to the wide variety of careers and education options available to them! As such, there will also be a bulletin board describing the six major career clusters (along with example jobs) to further broaden their knowledge of different career paths. Once in middle and high school, students can refine their searches by focusing in on their own areas of interest.
